Learning activity details

(Cigu, Qigu, or Chigu Lagoon – no matter how it’s spelled phonetically in English, this lagoon and estuary in southern Taiwan gives a great sunset. Cigu is also the name of the larger district on shore, on the western edge of Tainan, the oldest city in Taiwan.

The fence-like structures are part of a network of eel nets that capture young eels for the district’s robust eel farm business. Like farmed fish in the United States, the eels are caught and raised to market size, providing one of the primary food sources for residents of the area. Oyster farms along the coast here are also big business.)
