Learning activity details

I'm really excited about what we were able to achieve in communities with AppDay. More than 500 students (ages 11-18) from 17 different schools and multiple school districts came together in South Seattle to program what would, for many of them, be their very first mobile apps. Now, 80 percent of these students had no prior computer science experience before they walked into the gym, but there were about 30 volunteer software engineers, computer science teachers, and university-level computer science students floating around the gym supporting the kids' efforts. App Day is all about promoting computer science literacy from an early age and providing opportunities for learning these skills within the context of public education, where they will be available to everyone.
