Microsoft Mentor School

A model of innovation

Mentor Schools are recognized leaders who have achieved change within their own education systems. Each year, a small number of Innovative Schools can apply to join this elite group of leading-edge schools from around the world as part of the Microsoft Mentor School program.

To be considered for Mentor status, schools must demonstrate a commitment to innovation and the ability to overcome obstacles in preparing students to be 21st century learners. In addition, they must have developed programs that can serve as models for other schools.

Selection criteria

To be selected as a Mentor School, schools must clearly demonstrate a vision for innovation and change. Their innovations need to be scalable, repeatable models that can help other schools work toward their own vision for transformation. In addition, Mentor Schools must have strong school-level leadership as well as community and professional support for the change process.

Mentor school applications are evaluated based on:

Availability of school leaders to attend the Partners in Learning Global Forum
Completeness of all sections of the application
Leadership support and commitment at a school and local government level
Involvement of community members and leaders in the decision making and planning process
Fluency of team members in English

Required to maximize collaboration at the Global Forum, coaching and mentoring team meetings and Virtual University workshops.

Selection is handled via a rigorous application process that focuses on educational leadership and learning vision as well as the roles of students, educators, curriculum, and technology in the school’s community.
